Amherst Baseball & Hadley-Amherst Softball

Youth Baseball Program

Following the March spring training sessions, ALL divisions will run on their regular schedules from about the first week of April through the middle of June. The start of the outdoor season is dependent on weather and field conditions.

Kickball: ages 4/5 (5U) .
Primarily for 4 year olds but open to 5 year olds who may have a better introduction to the game through kickball than Rookies T-ball. Saturdays 10:45-11:45.

Rookies: ages 5/6 (6U).
T-ball, with live batting instruction on the side. Players are typically 5 or 6 years old. This division plays with short rosters of 4-5 players per side during games to maximize action and opportunities for gameplay experience. Each team typically has practice on one weekday evening (day to be determined based on coach and team preferences and field availability) and all teams play a game on Saturday from 10:45-12:15.

Little League AA: ages 7/8 (8U).
Coach-pitch baseball, to maximize gameplay experience for players. Each team typically has practice on one weekday evening (day to be determined based on coach and team preferences and field availability) and all teams play a game on Saturday from 10:45-12:15

Little League Minors: Ages 9/10 (10U). Focused on competition and player development. Mix of coach-pitch and player-pitch to balance player development with pace of play and maximize on-field action (hitting, running, fielding). Mix of games with Amherst and Hadley teams. Monday and Wednesday late afternoon / evening and Sunday late afternoons.

Little League Majors: Ages 11/12, 10 year olds by tryout.
Full LL rules with kid-pitching, stealing, passed balls, dropped third strikes etc. In-town and out-of-town games. Players for post-season All-Star LL Tournament team selected from this division. Tuesday and Thursday late afternoons / evenings and Sunday midday / afternoon. Additional days and times possible due to weather and out-of-town scheduling.

Intermediate: Ages 11/12 (for returning Majors players). This division offers players the chance to practice and play games on a larger diamond (50-foot distance to mound, 70-foot basepaths). The main differences between 50/70 and Little League (46/60) are that leading off bases is allowed, and pitchers may attempt to pick off runners, closer to full MLB rules. The commitment is one additional day per week (Saturdays) on top of the regular Majors commitment (4 days total). This is being offered in collaboration with Hadley Baseball.

Sandy Koufax: (Spring) School Grades 7/8 and 9th graders who are not playing on a school-based team. Full size, 90’ diamond. Games against surrounding towns. This division allows players to transition from the LL diamond to the full-size 90’ diamond and provides developmental practices and a competitive game season that coincides with the school spring sports season.

Sandy Koufax (Summer) Ages 13/14/15. Summer baseball against surrounding towns. Variable schedule. We attempt to keep activities to Mon/Tues/Thurs/Sat, although some games and various reschedulings may occur on other days of the week.

Mickey Mantle (Summer): Ages 17 and under. Summer baseball against surrounding towns. June and July. Variable schedule.
